Who are some great Indians that most people have not heard of?

Afroz Shah

Two years ago, Afroz Shah, a young lawyer and environmentalist, moved to a new apartment near Versova beach. He saw a pile of garbage that was 5.5 feet high
In 2015, he began cleaning the beach with the help of a neighbor every weekend. The story spread throughout the city and he was soon joined by local residents, slum-dwellers, politicians and school children.
In just 85 weeks, he changed the Versova beach from this:
To this:

JANKIDAS MEHRA
Nowadays, for any essay contest on the subject:'A sporting icon' the immediate person who comes to our mind is Sachin Tendulkar with $40 million  endorsement or MS Dhoni with $42million endorsements.
People nowadays tend to forget the unsung heroes who had made our nation proud right from the era of the British

Jankidas Mehra was a champion cyclist of world repute. He broke eight world cycling records between 1934-42.he represented India in the world Olympic Games in 1936 at Berlin. He was India’s sole representative at the empire games in1938 in Sydney, Australia and at the eastern games in 1940 Tokyo.
Finally before the world sports congress meet in Zurich he met Mahatma Gandhi who put him in a moral dilemma...”do you want to represent British India?”
At the meet Jankidas quietly untied the British flag and hoisted India’s national flag (pre independence) and he became the first Indian to have done this. With this act against British occupation, he was hailed a hero but the controversy forced this sports person plus freedom fighter’s sports career to end.
He became later a well known writer, a director and a noted actor (from whose Mumbai estate Sanjana Kapoor’s Prithvi theatre now operates)
Jankidas passed away in Mumbai on June 18, 2003 at the age of 93.

Share & Let the world notice that the nation had such amazing peoples.
